UNAM and the University of Chicago advance cooperation on Quantum Physics and Computing


A delegation from UNAM that included the Dean of Graduate Studies, Manuel Torres Labansat; the Head of the Center for Studies in Advanced Computing, Boris Escalante and its Academic Coordinator, Jimena Olvera, concluded a very fruitful visit hosted and organized by the University of Chicago. The visit included several meetings with some of the top researches and academics in the fields of quantum computing, quantum physics, molecular engineering and other disciplines related to the advancement on these fields.

The delegation´s itinerary included meetings and a lunch hosted by Vice president for Science, Innovation, National Laboratories and Global Initiatives, Juan de Pablo, a key figure in making the trip possible and setting up a program filled with content and substance.

The second day of the visit included a tour of the Argonne National Laboratory where the delegation got to see Aurora, a 600 ton computer equivalent to the weight of an Airbus, and the Advanced Photon Source among many other fascinating research in quantum physics and quantum computing.

The visit concluded with the commitment from both parts to work towards cooperation on several areas of research and explore student and academic exchanges.
