UNAM Chicago Celebrates Autumn Equinox with Kichwa Community

Last week we celebrated along with the Kichwa community of Chicago the autumn equinox or Koya Raymi. This is one of the most important festivities in the Andean calendar dedicated to preparing the land, celebrating the femininity and fertility of the earth for the beginning of the new agricultural cycle. Kids form the Kichwa community took part in a runway showcasing traditional clothing. There as also music, poetry and traditional food.

Our Liaison for Cultural and Inter-Institutional Affairs, Alberto Foncerrada, underscored UNAM Chicago´s commitment to diversity and its role as a place where different cultures intersect and enrich one another.
