UNAM Chicago offers Spanish courses for public school teachers
Updated: May 19
Spanish for Educators and Spanish for Heritage Speakers courses will be delivered to CPS teachers this winter. They seek to serve the cultural diversity of public schools in the Chicago South area, where the majority of families speak Spanish at home.
Velma Thomas Early Childhood Education Center will once again host UNAM courses where their teachers and those from surrounding schools will gather.

Participants of the Spanish for Educators course will develop communicative and socio-cultural competences to establish basic interactions with parents, engage students in class activities, and provide feedback to students and parents about their children while observing appropriate cultural communication.
And the main goal of the other course, Spanish for Heritage Speakers, is to strengthen professional skills (oral expression and writing) to communicate with the students’ families while broadening and refreshing the knowledge of the Spanish language system
